Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Rides Fast Start to 10th Win

The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team scored six goals in the first quarter and went on to its second straight Centennial Conference road win, 11-5 at McDaniel.

Three days after setting the school record for biggest margin of victory in a CC road win (14-5 at Swarthmore), the Mules put another mark in the book – most goals scored in the first quarter of a CC game. The previous high of five was accomplished three times previously, including twice last year.

With the win, the Mules (10-3, 3-2) reached double figures in victories for the third time in program history and put themselves in the thick of the CC playoff race. The Mules have three nationally ranked teams (Dickinson, Ursinus and Franklin & Marshall) left on their schedule.

Sophomores PJ Lombara and Thomas Murphy scored two goals apiece in the big first quarter. Lombara (pictured above) added a goal in the third quarter for his first hat trick of the season.

Muhlenberg scored half of its first-period goals in transition or directly off faceoffs, with freshman Cooper Richards (2) and senior Steve Chenworth (1), both defensive middies, combining for three assists. Another defensive midfielder, sophomore Alexander Giaquinto, scored the Mules' final goal.

The attackmen got into the act as well, with sophomore Ethan Grossman tying his career high of four assists to go along with a goal. Grossman has 30 assists on the season, just two short of the school record he set last year.

Junior Jake Whittingslow scored a pair of goals for his second multiple-goal game of the season, and freshman James Dalimonte netted two points on a goal and an assist. His season totals of 36 goals and 43 points have been topped only by Grossman.

Junior Garrett Pope was outstanding in net, recording 16 saves while allowing a season-low four goals. Freshman Maxwell Seeber led the poles with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Junior Frankie Feaster reached a career milestone by winning eight faceoffs to run his career total to 505. Entering the weekend, only 20 active Division III players had won 500 career faceoffs.
