Volleyball Rallies to Beat Penn State Berks

Trailing 2-1, the Muhlenberg volleyball team won the fourth set, 25-19, and fifth set, 15-6, to beat Penn State Berks, 3-2, in the final non-conference match of the season.

Tied at 18 in the fourth set senior Maggie Enestvedt keyed a 7-1 set-ending run with four kills. An attack error by the Nittany Lions (13-11) put the Mules in front, 19-18, to set up the final run. Senior Laura Boll finished it off with a kill to force a fifth set.

The Mules (10-12) carried the momentum into the fifth set and pounced on the opposition early. Kills from five different players, along with an ace from junior Maya Illovsky, had Muhlenberg in front 7-2. That lead increased to 10-3 thanks to a pair of kills from Enestvedt and one from senior Madison Forrest; the Mules scored five of the set's last seven points.

Muhlenberg led by as many as nine in the first set and ended the game on a 5-0 run that included a pair of Megan Ray kills and a Forrest ace. The visitors, however, claimed sets two and three, 25-21 and 28-26, respectively.

As a team, the Mules racked up a dozen aces, marking the fifth time this season they reached double-digit aces. Illovsky and junior Rebecca Shear tied for the team lead with three each.

Enestvedt put forth her best hitting effort of the year with a .621 hitting percentage and matched a season-best 19 kills. It was her second-highest single-match hitting percentage of her career, behind the .647 she hit against Bryn Mawr in 2017.

Boll joined Enestvedt in double-figures with 11 kills, followed closely by Forrest and sophomore Lauren Achey with nine. Achey's nine kills are a career-high.

Running the offense for the first three sets was senior Gabby Neuman (pictured above), who set a career-high with 36 assists. Freshman Emma Eglinton totaled 21 assists over the final two games.

Defensively, four different players reached double digits in digs led by Illovsky with 24. Joining her were freshman Caleya Tereska with a career-high 21, Boll (18), and Shear (12).
