Women's Soccer Breaks Out at Alvernia

The Muhlenberg women's soccer team broke out of a scoring drought in a big way, netting five first-half goals in a 5-0 win at Alvernia.

The Mules (5-3-1), who had been shut out in their last four games - including a scoreless tie against nationally ranked Dickinson - achieved a season high in goals. They hadn't scored five goals in a half since 1998, when they did in a 6-1 win against Albright.

Five different players scored the goals - freshmen Emily DeAngelo and Noemi Di Cori, juniors Mia Mulin and Danielle Strashinsky and senior Sarah Hunter. For Strashinsky, it was her first career goal.

DeAngelo opened the scoring at the 9:41 mark, converting a pass from De Cori for her third goal of the season. Eight minutes later, Hunter sprung Mulin (pictured above) for a breakaway goal.

That kicked off a blitz of three goals in 2:23, the second-fastest in program history. In a 2007 game against Bryn Mawr, Muhlenberg scored three goals in a span of 1:36.

Hunter scored her fourth career goal, her first this season, at 19:28. Just 28 seconds later, Hunter fed Di Cori. The two goals in 28 seconds were the fastest for the Mules since a 2008 game against Kean, when they scored twice 15 seconds apart.

Strashinsky closed the scoring off a pass from junior Hannah Merlo with six minutes left in the half.

Three goalies, senior Libby Juliano, junior Kayla Klarides and sophomore Julianna King, split the game, each making a save in Muhlenberg's sixth shutout of the season.
