Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Stuns Johns Hopkins

The Muhlenberg men's basketball team posted its biggest win of the season, using a flurry of second-half three-pointers to topple defending Centennial Conference champion Johns Hopkins, 56-52.

The Blue Jays (8-5, 5-1) came in as the lone undefeated team in the CC and are receiving votes in the D3hoops.com poll. The Mules (7-6, 4-2) are now just a game out of first place after picking up their first win in Baltimore since 2012.

Muhlenberg was only 2-of-12 from behind the arc in the first half but shot 7-of-13 in the second 20 minutes. The Mules went on a 17-4 run early in the second half to turn a three-point deficit into a 10-point lead. All but two of the 17 points came on threes by freshmen, with Dallas Hoffman nailing three and Noah Watson and Dan Gaines draining one each.

Another three by junior Matt Gnias made it 49-42 with just over three minutes left, and the score remained that way until a wild final minute.

A Hopkins three cut the margin to 49-45 with 58.5 seconds left before Gaines made both ends of a one-and-one at the 50.8 mark.

The Blue Jays then scored a four-point play - normally rare but their second of the game - to close to within two points, at 51-49, with 27.8 ticks showing. Freshman Nate Henty Brown went 3-for-4 from the line over the next 14 seconds to extend the lead to five.

Hopkins hit yet another three-pointer to make it 54-52 with 6.8 seconds left, but Gaines iced the win with a pair of free throws.

Gaines led all scorers with 14 points, while Henty Brown (pictured above) recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Sophomore Michael Morreale finished with 7 points and 3 blocked shots and had the highlight play of the night with a thunderous dunk-and-one midway through the first half.

The Mules held the Blue Jays, who came in leading the CC with a field-goal percentage of .475, to 33.3-percent shooting.
