The Muhlenberg men's soccer team opened the 2018 season in dramatic fashion, coming back to defeat Susquehanna 2-1 on a goal by junior
Kevin Hagan with 1:15 left in regulation.
The River Hawks opened the scoring off a breakaway in the 28th minute. Senior
Jordan Schreer came off his line to make a sliding save of the original shot, but the Susquehanna shooter collected the rebound and fired the ball into the open net.
Exactly 11 minutes later, the Mules tied the game. Senior
Kevin Irving took a pass in the middle of the field, dribbled to the top of the box and sent a pass to sophomore
Mark Winter on his left. Winter
(pictured above) poked the ball past the goalie with his right foot for his second career goal.
The score remained 1-1 through most of the second half thanks to Schreer, who twice leaped to parry shots over the net. He finished with six saves.
The winning tally was set up by two of the four Muhlenberg freshmen who started the game.
Christian Puccio chased down a ball at the end line and sent a pass back to the middle.
Stephen Carton passed to Hagan, who headed the ball in for his first career goal.
It was the latest Muhlenberg scored a game-winning regulation goal since 2006, when Billy Dalton scored with 5 seconds left for a 1-0 defeat of McDaniel.
