The Muhlenberg softball team took the first of two closely contested games against Albright, winning 3-1 before falling 4-2 in the nightcap.
Senior
Karissa Astrella provided two RBI doubles in the first game, one in the first inning to tie the game at 1-1 and another in the sixth inning to provide an insurance run.
The Mules (10-18) scored the go-ahead run in the second inning. Junior
Kristina Qualben led off with a double to left field, and freshman
Sophie Chong singled two batters later to put runners on the corners. Chong then attempted to steal second and the throw down allowed Qualben to score the winning run.
Chong delivered her first career complete game on the mound in earning her second win of the season. She only allowed six hits and one walk while recording one strikeout. Chong twice escaped potential jams with runners in scoring position, inducing inning-ending ground balls in the third and sixth frames.
Senior
Haley Fedak went 2-for-3 with a double in the win, scoring runs on both of Astrella's doubles.
The Lions (12-13) scored three unearned runs to start the second game with a 3-0 lead after three innings. Muhlenberg fought back with two runs in the fourth, including an RBI for sophomore
Sydney Carey on a sacrifice fly. The Mules again put runners on base in the fifth and seventh innings but could not get another run across.
Sophomore
Nicole Bergamo struck out two batters and only allowed three hits in four innings on the bump. Fedak also struck out two hitters in three innings of relief.
Astrella
(pictured above, making a diving play at second) was hit by a pitch for the 12th time in her career, giving her the Muhlenberg all-time record. Her two doubles in the early game leave her one shy of becoming the sixth Mule with 30 two-baggers in a career.
