The Muhlenberg baseball team showcased more of its young arms but could not generate any offense and lost, 5-0, to a strong Thomas More program that has won at least 25 games for the last 11 years.
For the fourth time in as many games on its trip to Florida, the Mules (3-7) started a freshman pitcher. Like his predecessors,
Paul Poppert displayed considerable talent in his first career start, holding the Saints scoreless for the first three innings before allowing three runs in the fourth. He finished with five strikeouts in his 4 2/3 innings.
Another freshman,
Truman Devitt, came on in relief and did not allow an earned run in 2 1/3 innings. Senior
Austin Disher (pictured above) worked a scoreless eighth, striking out his final hitter.
Muhlenberg managed only four hits in the game and did not get a runner past second base.
Junior catcher
Matt Riebesell picked off a runner for the second straight game and threw out another attempting to steal.
