Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Closes Strong To Win

The Muhlenberg men's basketball team ended its game against Washington College on a 9-3 run to pull out a 68-62 victory.

Sophomore Matt Gnias scored seven of the Mules' final nine points. With the score tied at 59-59 with four minutes left, Gnias made three straight jumpers over a 2:30 stretch and later added a free throw to give Muhlenberg enough cushion to seal its second straight overall and Centennial Conference victory.

Gnias finished the game with nine points to go with four assists.

Senior Nick Rindock led all Muhlenberg scorers with 17 points, making all six of his free throw attempts as well. Senior Owen McLeod and freshman Spencer Duke each contributed nine points off the bench and combined for 11 rebounds. Senior JeanLee Baez finished with a team-high nine rebounds to go with six points.

The Mules (4-7, 2-3 CC) trailed the Shoremen (4-8, 1-4 CC) to start the game before rallying back late in the first half. McLeod (pictured above) started the run with a layup, and senior Alex Mitton drew a charge on defense to continue the spark. Mitton later tipped in an offensive rebound to tie the score at 28, and Duke made a free throw to complete the 8-0 run that gave Muhlenberg the lead.

Muhlenberg carried its one-point advantage into halftime and extended its lead to as many as 10 on a RIndock layup. Washington came back to tie the game midway through the half, but the Mules never gave their opponent back the lead throughout the half.

Muhlenberg caused 20 Washington turnovers in the game while committing only 12 on its end. The Mule defense also achieved season-lows in points allowed, field goals allowed (19) and field goal percentage defense (36.5 percent).
