The Muhlenberg women's soccer team looked destined to tie another Centennial Conference opponent until a late Haverford goal resulted in a 2-1 loss in double overtime.
The Mules (2-4-1, 0-1-1 CC) battled back from a 1-0 deficit, with freshman
Mia Mulin scoring a second-half goal to tie the match with nine minutes left in regulation.
The two defenses negated any further scoring to force overtime. Haverford took the only shots of the overtime periods, and with under a minute remaining in the second overtime, the Fords (3-2-1, 1-0-0 CC) were able to score the winner.
The two teams played to a draw in the first half, as Muhlenberg held a 3-2 advantage in shot opportunities. Sophomore goalkeeper
Libby Juliano saved both Haverford shots in the half.
Juliano made two more great stops to start the second half, extending to her left to deny a Fords shot and then catching a bullet aimed to her right in the 59th minute. The Mules continued to hold strong on defense with Juliano making two more tough saves to keep the Fords off the board. The Fords, however, did break through with the first goal in the 73rd minute.
The Mules proved resilient, making their own push on offense. A shot by senior
Carly DeNigris was blocked and kept in Muhlenberg's possession. Sophomore
Alyssa Rose eventually passed to Mulin
(pictured above) who corralled the ball and drilled the game-tying goal into the net from long distance into the top corner of the net for her first career goal. Rose earned her second assist of the season on Mulin's goal.
Juliano finished the match with a season-high 12 saves.
