The Muhlenberg women's lacrosse team hung with 10th-ranked Franklin & Marshall for most of the game but ended up falling, 17-10, in its final game of the regular season.
The result gave the Mules (13-3, 7-2) the third seed in the Centennial Conference playoffs and a semifinal rematch with the Diplomats (14-4, 8-1) next Saturday. Gettysburg earned the top seed with a 13-3 win against Washington and will host the semifinals and final.
Sophomore
Jordy Bonvini led the Muhlenberg offense with four goals for her 20th career hat trick, while sophomore
Emma CarmodyÂ
(pictured above) netted a career-high four points on three goals and an assist.
The Mules jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first 12 minutes, only to have F&M reel off the next five goals to go ahead, 6-4. Goals by sophomore
Amanda Tullo and Bonvini in the last 2:28 of the half sent the teams into the break tied at 6-6.
The Diplomats scored the first three goals of the second half, and again Muhlenberg came back. Consecutive goals by Bonvini brought the Mules to within a goal at 9-8, but that was as close as they would get. It was 13-10 with five minutes left before F&M finished with four straight goals.
The 10 goals scored by the Mules came against an F&M defense that allowed only 38 goals in its other eight CC games.
Senior
Kelsey Nagle finished with a goal and two assists to move into fourth place on the program's all-time list with 214 career points. Sophomore
Caroline Dolan controlled a game-high seven draws.
