The Muhlenberg women's lacrosse team rode a strong second-half effort to a 15-7 victory over Dickinson on Senior Day.
Â
The Mules (12-2, 6-1 CC) were already leading 6-5 coming out of halftime before rattling off five straight tallies to increase their lead. The defense only gave up two goals in the second half and forced 16 Red Devil turnovers – nine in the second half – in securing the victory.
Â
Muhlenberg honored its nine members of the senior class –
Sara Allison,
Alli April,
Stephanie D'Ascoli,
Nora Fisher,
Cassidy Freudenberg,
Alex Grossman,
Morgan Lukaszewicz,
Allison Murnick and
Kelsey Nagle – before the game. The win gives this year's senior class a 44-21 mark over a four year span, already a school record, and moves the team to within one win of tying the season wins record (13) set last season.
Â
The Mules also kept themselves in good position in the Centennial Conference standings, remaining in a tie for first place with Gettysburg and Franklin & Marshall after both teams won their respective games. Muhlenberg plays at Franklin & Marshall to end the regular season and already beat Gettysburg earlier this season.
Â
Junior
Jordy Bonvini led the Mule offense with four goals and an assist, making it her 12th hat trick of the season and eighth straight game with at least three goals. Nagle and sophomore
Amanda Tullo also recorded hat tricks.
Â
D'Ascoli and Fisher each tallied two goals and an assist as well. Sophomore
Emma Carmody assisted two goals, including freshman
Emma Charron's strike to help stake Muhlenberg out to a 4-0 lead in the first eight minutes.
Â
The Red Devils (8-6, 5-2 CC), ranked ninth in the Mid-Atlantic Region by the NCAA, came back with five straight goals to take the lead before Tullo's first goal tied the game with 3:03 remaining in the first half. Bonvini then fed D'Ascoli 12 seconds later to provide the Mules a lead they would not relinquish.
Â
April led the defensive effort by collecting a career-high six ground balls and tying her career-best mark with four caused turnovers. Fisher also gathered three ground balls and sophomore
Morgan Weiss caused two turnovers. Allison tied her career high with 14 saves while earning the victory in goal.
Â
As a team, Muhlenberg surpassed 200 goals in a season for the seventh time in program history.
