The Muhlenberg women's basketball team achieved head coach
Ron Rohn's 400th career coaching win and the team's sixth in a row in style, triumphing 76-34 at Swarthmore.
Â
The Mules (14-6, 11-4 CC) rushed out to a large lead in the early going while playing tenacious defense, holding the Garnet (2-17, 2-12 CC) to only 12 field goals and a 19.2 percent shooting clip in the game. The 42-point victory matched the scoring margin from the Mules' previous game at Washington, which is one point shy of tying the season-high.
Â
Muhlenberg jumped out to such an advantage that it rested its starters for most of the second half. The reserves increased the Mules lead to as many as 47 points when freshman
Ashley Polera hit a three-pointer from the wing with four minutes remaining.

Junior
Brandi Vallely also scored in double figures, adding 12 points to go with seven rebounds and a team-high five assists. Sophomore
Sara Dilly tied Vallely for the team lead with seven boards as well.
Â
The Mules held the Garnet to three field goals and at one point scored 11 straight unanswered in jumping out to a 22-9 lead after the first period. Swarthmore brought the lead back down to nine in the second period before sophomore
Carley Hamilton's layup off a Vallely pass put Muhlenberg up 26-15. Muhlenberg never relinquished its double-digit advantage the rest of the way.
Â
Muhlenberg carried its momentum into the second half as well, going on an 18-4 run in the first five minutes of the third period with a long jumper from Polera making it 57-23. The Mules took out their remaining starters with 6:18 left in the third period.
Â
The victory for Rohn was his 400th overall of his college coaching career, with 320 of those wins in his tenure at Muhlenberg. Rohn is in the middle of his 16th season at the helm of the Mules, and his .748 winning percentage with the Mules entering this season was the best of any coach in Centennial Conference history.
Â
The Mules dominated on the boards, outrebounding Swarthmore 53-28. The defense held the Garnet to a 2-for-11 mark from three-point range (18.2 percent), and Muhlenberg also outscored the Garnet in the paint 30-14 as well.
Â
Eleven of the 16 Mules that played in the game scored a point. Freshmen
Emilie Benton and
Madison Kirchofer each contributed six points off the bench, while sophomore
Eva Sodaitis chipped in four points in eight minutes.
