Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bench Sparks Women's Basketball to Fourth Straight

The Muhlenberg women's basketball team enjoyed a pre-Thanksgiving feast, overcoming a sluggish start to defeat Bryn Mawr, 94-37, in its Centennial Conference opener.

The Mules (4-0, 1-0) trailed 6-4 midway through the first quarter and made only four of their first 19 field-goal attempts. Led by the performances of several non-starters, they shot 53.2 percent the rest of the game, scoring 78 points over the final three quarters.

Sophomore Emily O'Mahoney sparked Muhlenberg off the bench with two three-pointers late in the first quarter and finished with a career-high 13 points in only 14 minutes to go along with 4 steals. Freshman Ny Thomas also set a career high with 15 points in 15 minutes.

Sophomore Ashley Polera (pictured above) recorded 10 points and 3 steals. Senior Rachel Plotke was the only Mule starter to score in double figures, with 11 points.

Muhlenberg's bench outscored Bryn Mawr's by a 61-0 margin.

Senior Brandi Vallely became the second CC player with 500 assists in her career, finishing with 6 assists, 6 points and 6 rebounds. She did not commit a turnover; for the season she has 43 assists and only 6 turnovers.

Sophomore Maggie Chau and freshman JoJo Pierick notched 4 assists apiece.

Five points by Thomas capped a 20-0 second-quarter run that extended an 18-10 lead to 38-10. The Mules had two runs of at least 10 points in the third quarter, when they outscored the Owls 27-8.
