Women's Soccer Wins on Senior Night

Junior Makenzie O'Brien scored two first-half goals to lead the Muhlenberg women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Washington College.

The Mules (5-8-4, 3-4-3 CC) earned the win on the night they honored their two seniors, Carly DeNigris (pictured left) and Molly Chiodo (pictured right). Muhlenberg played well on both ends of the field, outshooting the Shorewomen (7-9-1, 2-8 CC) 24-9 in the match and holding the visitors scoreless in the second half. The Mule defense only allowed two shots in the final 20 minutes of the match.

O'Brien provided all the offense Muhlenberg needed in the first 18 minutes of the match. She scored her first goal, also her first of the season, off a Washington attempt to clear the ball, one-timing it with her left foot into the right side of the net.

Five minutes later, sophomore Casarah Morales fired a long ball from midfield and connected with O'Brien, who shot again with her left foot over the keeper for her first multi-goal game of her career. The assist for Morales was the first of her career.

Washington was able to score in the 35th minute to cut the lead down to one, but Muhlenberg's defense held strong the rest of the way.

Sophomore goalkeeper Marissa D'Alessandro saved five shots, including three in the second half to preserve the lead. The goalie victory was the first for D'Alessandro this season.

DeNigris attempted two shots in the final game of her career, one that was saved 40 minutes into the match and another that missed just wide right of the net with two minutes remaining.
