After coming behind in the fourth quarter to win its last two games, the Muhlenberg women's basketball team enjoyed a relatively comfortable 70-51 win at Ursinus.
The Mules (11-6, 8-4) opened up a 10-point lead early in the second quarter and led by double digits for the final 28 minutes in winning their third straight.Â
Juniors
Rachel Plotke and
Chelsea Gary scored 15 points apiece to lead the Mules, with Gary adding 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. She also blocked three shots.
Junior
Brandi Vallely finished with 14 points, seven assists, five steals and five rebounds. Senior
Maggie Zerbe scored 11 points and sophomore
Sara Dilly chipped in with nine as the Mules narrowly missed placing all five starters in double figures.
The Bears (8-10, 6-7) led 8-7 before Muhlenberg went on a 9-0 run to take command. Gary assisted Zerbe on a high-low pass for the first points of the run and later added a layup off a pass from Vallely. Dilly's three-pointer and a steal and layup by Vallely made it 16-8.
The Mules led 19-12 after one quarter and extended their advantage on a pair of three-pointers by Plotke early in the second. PlotkeÂ
(pictured above)Â finished 5-for-9 from behind the arc and is shooting 60.0 percent on threes over the last three games. She moved into fifth place on the program's all-time list with 122 career three-pointers.
Muhlenberg shot 44.4 percent from the field and held Ursinus to 29.6-percent shooting in sweeping the season series for the ninth consecutive year.
