Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Hangs Tough on Senior Day

Box Score

The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse put forth an outstanding defensive effort in its final home game of the season, a 9-5 loss to Ursinus.

The Mules stayed within striking distance for the entire game against a Bear team that is ranked 18th in Division III. Only one other Centennial Conference team has held Ursinus to single digits in goals this season - sixth-ranked Gettysburg.

Leading the defensive effort with an 11-save performance was Kyle Larkin, who was recognized prior to the game along with fellow seniors Jashon DeSenna, Louie Bellucci, Ryan Bohrod, Steven Casella and Peter Zipf (pictured left to right above).

DeSenna contributed to the defense with a caused turnover and a ground ball, while Bellucci picked up two ground balls in his first career start. Casella recorded an assist and three ground balls.

The teams traded goals through the early stages of the game, with sophomore Niko Del Moro scoring a man-up goal 18 seconds into the second quarter for a 3-3 tie. The Bears (11-2, 5-1) netted the final three goals of the half to go up 6-3.

Sophomore Ryan Malloy notched his seventh goal of the season early in the third quarter to cut the deficit to two, but Ursinus responded by scoring the next two goals. A goal by junior Jason Ku made it 8-5 early in the fourth, but that was as close as Muhlenberg would get.

Junior Brad D'Alessandro and sophomore Joey Hess also scored goals for the Mules. D'Alessandro added an assist to run his season point total to 40, becoming only the sixth player in team history to reach that level.

Del Moro added five ground balls and two caused turnovers to his goal and assist. Sophomore Kevin Bergenty and freshman Brandon Miller each finished with three ground balls and a caused turnover.
