Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Defense, Bonvini Leads Women's Lax to 10th Win

Box Score

Sophomore Jordy Bonvini set a career high in goals for the second straight game and the defense dominated for the last 59 minutes and 34 seconds as the Muhlenberg women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to three with a 16-5 home win against Swarthmore.

The win gave the Mules (10-3, 3-3) double digits in victories for the fifth time in program history (all since 2006). They need one more win to tie the school record of 11 in a season, set in 2008.

Muhlenberg also put itself squarely in the middle of a tightly packed Centennial Conference playoff race. With three games remaining in the regular season, the Mules are tied with Dickinson for fifth place, a game behind third-place Haverford and Washington.

Swarthmore (5-8, 1-5), which was shut out in its last game, scored just nine seconds after the opening draw and again 17 seconds later to take a quick 2-0 lead. The Garnet slowed down its pace considerably, though, thanks to a Muhlenberg defense that forced 22 turnovers. Swarthmore scored just once in the final 43 minutes of the game.

Senior Rachel Pedersen (pictured above) caused six turnovers (one short of the the school record) and picked up four ground balls. Junior Allison Murnick also recorded four ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers. Junior Sara Allison made five saves in goal to win her third straight start.

The five goals were the fewest allowed by the Mules in a CC game this season.

The offense, meanwhile, erased the early deficit by the time the game was five minutes old and continued to extend its lead as the contest progressed. Bonvini, who scored a career-high five goals in Saturday's win at McDaniel, topped that with six goals - three in each half. She added two assists and eight draw controls.

Junior Kelsey Nagle finished with five points on three goals and two assists, while senior Casey Armstrong and junior Stephanie D'Ascoli netted a pair of goals apiece. Sophomore Eliza Clark matched her season total coming in with three assists.

Senior Brigid Noone scored her first point of the season, assisting on a goal by freshman Alex Hyatt.
