The Muhlenberg softball team was tied late in both games but was swept by The College of New Jersey in its final tuneup before opening Centennial Conference play.
In the opener, Muhlenberg struck first blood in the bottom of the first inning. Senior
Nicole Iannarone led off with a double to straightaway centerfield and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Two batters later, senior
Taylor Trifiolis brought Iannarone home with an RBI single to left field.
The Lions (10-5) tied the game with a run in the fourth and pulled away with four runs in the seventh.
In the nightcap, the Mules trailed 3-1 heading to the bottom of the fifth inning before coming back to tie the game. Sophomore
Amelia Shelley drew a bases-loaded walk before sophomore
Paige Seitz hit an RBI groundout to second to make it a 3-3 game.
TCNJ retook the lead with a run in the sixth and added an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Muhlenberg had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, but ended the game on a fielder's choice.
Freshman
Kristy Selby had her first career two-hit performance in the second game. Trifiolis reached base in five of seven plate appearances in the doubleheader.
