Women's Basketball Rally Falls Short

Box Score

The Muhlenberg women's basketball team cut a 12-point second-half deficit to one, but ultimately could not overcome cold shooting and fell at Gettysburg, 57-48.

After trailing by six points in the first quarter, the Mules (16-2, 10-2) came back to lead through much of the second. The game was tied, 28-28 at the half.

The Bullets (15-4, 9-4) scored the first eight points of the second half and pushed their lead to 12, at 44-32, with 4:06 left in the third quarter. It was 47-36 early in the fourth before Muhlenberg went on a 10-0 run to close to within a point with 6:26 left. The Mules did not make another field goal the rest of the game, however, and Gettysburg scored the final five points on free throws in the final minute.

Muhlenberg, which entered the game third in Division III in field-goal percentage defense, held the Bullets to 27.1-percent shooting.

Sophomores Brandi Vallely and Rachel Plotke led the Mules with 13 points apiece. Vallely added eight rebounds, five assists and seven steals.

Senior Christina Santone (pictured above) pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds and blocked five shots.
