Box Score

Five players scored in double figures as the Muhlenberg women's basketball team clinched homecourt advantage in the Centennial Conference playoffs by defeating Ursinus on the road, 78-52, in the regular-season finale.

The Mules (22-2, 16-2), who tied a school record with their 22nd regular-season win, needed a win and a loss by McDaniel to earn the right to host the semifinals and final for the first time since 2010. They took care of business on their end and got the help they needed when Gettysburg toppled McDaniel, 73-64.

Muhlenberg will face the winner of Wednesday's 4-5 matchup between Dickinson and either Haverford or Ursinus.

Sophomore Brandi Vallely recorded 10 points and 10 assists for her CC-leading 14th double-double of the season. Sophomore Chelsea Gary also recorded a double-double, her second of the season and her first since the season opener. In addition to her 10 points and 11 rebounds, Gary blocked four shots – but that was only the third-most on the team.

Senior Christina Santone tied her own school record with seven blocks, and junior Maggie Zerbe added a career-high five. The 16 total blocks were one short of the school record set last year against Franklin & Marshall.

Santone (pictured above) added 16 points and nine rebounds, while Zerbe finished with seven points and nine boards.

Sophomore Rachel Plotke scored a game-high 17 points and added three steals, while sophomore Christina Manning contributed 10 points.

Muhlenberg led by 20 points (36-16) at halftime after shooting 53.6 percent from the field in the first half.

The Bears (11-13, 9-8) will have to win at Gettysburg on Monday in order to clinch the fifth and final playoff spot in the CC playoffs.

The Mules, who are ranked third in Division III in defensive field-goal percentage, allowed Ursinus to shoot 26.1 percent.
