Brandon LaRose scored a season-high 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting as the Muhlenberg men's basketball team built a big lead early in the second half and held off a late comeback effort for a 65-58 win at Haverford.
Four players added seven points for the Mules (5-2, 2-2), who won their second straight.
Muhlenberg took the lead for good at 6-5 on a jumper by LaRose early in the game. LaRose scored 14 points in the first half, two on a dunk that made it 20-15 with 9:01 left. The Mules still had a five-point lead, at 29-24, before scoring the final six points of the half to take a double-digit lead into the locker room.
Muhlenberg kept the momentum after the break, opening with an 11-4 run to take its biggest lead at 46-28 less than three minutes into the second half.
The Fords (1-7, 0-3) chipped away at the lead, closing to within single digits at the five-minute mark. The Mules buckled down on defense, however, holding Haverford to two field goals, including a meaningless one with three seconds left, the rest of the way.
