A late scoring push from Elizabethtown downed the Muhlenberg women's basketball team 57-49 on the road in its final game of the 2016 calendar.

The Mules (7-3) controlled the advantage through two and a half quarters but could not hold off the late charge from the Blue Jays (8-1), who took the lead for good with less than five minutes left in the fourth period.

Muhlenberg contained Elizabethtown in the first half, holding the Blue Jays to seven field goals while forcing 13 turnovers. Junior
Christina Manning scored all nine of her points in the first period to help the Mules take a 22-14 lead.

The Mules went up by as much as nine after junior
Brandi Vallely grabbed a rebound and went coast-to-coast for a layup to make it 24-15. Elizabethtown chipped away at Muhlenberg's lead and the two teams entered halftime with the visitors up 28-24.

The lead changed late in the third period in the Blue Jays' favor, but the Mules continued to fight back. Senior
Maggie Zerbe completed a three-point play to end the period and bring the Mules within two.

(pictured above) tied the game on the first basket of the fourth quarter, with Vallely leading her on a pass into the paint and Zerbe hitting the turnaround layup. The Mules tied it again at 47-47 after junior
Chelsea Gary finished a layup off an assist from sophomore
Sara Dilly with five minutes remaining. The Blue Jays responded however with a 10-2 rally to close out the game.

Vallely led all Muhlenberg scorers with 18 points while also recording game-highs with six assists and five steals.

Zerbe gathered a season-high 11 rebounds to lead the Mules on the glass while scoring six points. Gary collected seven rebounds to go with her nine points.
