Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Werheim Scores 14 in Men's Basketball Loss

Sophomore forward Erik Werheim set a new career high with 14 points, making seven of nine shots, as the Muhlenberg men's basketball team fell to Swarthmore 81-49.

Werheim also led the Mules (3-2, 0-2 CC) in rebounds with four and steals with five in 16 minutes coming off the bench.

Muhlenberg scored the first basket of the game on a layup from senior center John Hunter, but the Garnet (5-0, 2-0 CC) soon took the lead and never relinquished it.

Trailing at the break, Muhlenberg turned up the defensive intensity to start the second half, forcing 10 Swarthmore turnovers in the first 10 minutes of the period. The Mules outscored the Garnet 19-11 during that stretch.

The Mules won the turnover battle 21-18 and tallied 15 steals to go with 11 assists. Coming out of halftime, Muhlenberg shot 48.1 percent from the field and an even 50 percent on three-point tries in the second half.

Senior guard Jon Schreer was a perfect three-for-three from behind the arc and finished with nine points. Junior guard Kevin Miller and freshman guard Matt Gnias each had three assists to lead Muhlenberg, and Miller also contributed three steals.

Sophomore guard Nigel Long made his first three-pointer of his career in the final minute of the game.
