Men's Basketball Comeback Falls Short

Box Score

The Muhlenberg men's basketball team fell into an early hole and could not recover, falling 75-64 at Johns Hopkins in its third game in six days.

The Blue Jays (6-6, 3-2), the defending Centennial Conference regular-season champions, opened up a 16-4 lead seven minutes into the game. The Mules, who came back from big deficits to win their two previous contests, chipped away and closed to within six just before halftime, going into the break trailing 30-22.

Back-to-back baskets by sophomore JeanLee Baez to start the second half cut the gap to four, but Hopkins reeled off the next seven points to extend its lead to double digits again. The closest Muhlenberg got the rest of the game was eight points, in the final minute.

Junior Brandon LaRose led the Mules with 14 points. Sophomore Sam McClellan (pictured above) scored a career-high 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting, and junior Jon Schreer also netted 10.

Baez came close to a double-double, finishing with eight points and 10 rebounds. Junior John Hunter recorded six points, nine rebounds, four assists and four blocked shots.
