John Hunter and a spirited second-half comeback, the Muhlenberg men's basketball team fell at McDaniel, 56-54.
Hunter recorded his fourth career double-double by scoring 14 points and tying a career high - set last year against McDaniel - with 15 rebounds. He also was a key part of a defensive effort that held the Green Terror's top scorer - who came in with a Centennial Conference-best streak of 22 straight games in double figures - to four points.
Sophomore
Nick Rindock led all scorers with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting, and senior
Alec Stavetski added 10.
The Mules (7-10, 4-7) faced their biggest deficit, 10 points, early in the second half before storming back with an 8-0 run to cut the gap to two. Hunter
(pictured above) scored six of the eight points.
McDaniel (9-9, 6-6) built its lead back to six before four points by Rindock and two by Hunter in the span of a minute tied the score at 47-all with 8:20 to play.
Down 55-52 with 1:16 left after a layup by sophomore
JeanLee Baez, Muhlenberg got a defensive stop and had a chance to tie in the last minute but came up short from three-point range. A McDaniel free throw made it 56-52, and Rindock hit a layup with just a second to go.
Muhlenberg held the Green Terror to 32-percent shooting in the second half and dominated the boards, 40-27.
