Heartbreak for Men's Soccer

Box Score | Photo Gallery

In a very balanced men's soccer match, Muhlenberg came out on the wrong end of a 1-0 final in double overtime.

Eastern Connecticut State found the back of the net with one second remaining in the second overtime to hand the Mules a heartbreaking first loss of the season.

Both teams had their share of opportunities throughout the contest, as freshman Jordan Schreer kept the score tied at zero with three big saves in the first half.

Muhlenberg turned up the heat in the second period, creating numerous chances in front of the Warriors' goal. Junior Jack Dusing ripped a shot from the top of the box with five minutes to play, but a diving stop by Eastern Connecticut's keeper kept the game scoreless.

Moments later, sophomore Anthony Carracino had another great opportunity for the Mules. He collected a loose ball in front of the Eastern Connecticut goal, but his shot sailed over the bar.

The Mules continued to force the action in the first overtime period with junior Phil Rahling and classmate Nick Sarkos forcing the Warrior keeper to make saves.

The game seemed destined to end in a scoreless draw before a last-ditch desperation shot went off the crossbar, off the post and in.

Muhlenberg had an 18-13 advantage in shots. Schreer finished with six saves.
