The Muhlenberg volleyball split a highly competitive home trimatch, falling to Johns Hopkins in four sets before rebounding to topple Stockton in four.
Hopkins and Stockton have combined to make seven NCAA Tournament appearances in the last four seasons and played a five-set match in between the two Mule contests.
The Hopkins match was tight throughout, with the Blue Jays prevailing 25-22, 26-24, 23-25, 25-22 in a rematch of the 2013 Centennial Conference final. Senior
Katherine Boll led the Mules (10-5, 1-2) with 15 kills and a .448 hitting percentage. Senior
Joanne Josephson also hit at a high percentage (.429), while freshman
Shannon Hubert had 36 assists and a match-high 21 digs.
Against Stockton, a team that came in with a 14-match winning streak, Muhlenberg handily won the first set, 25-13, after jumping out to an 11-3 lead.
The Mules trailed 20-17 in the second set before scoring the final eight points to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Junior
Allison Glass served during the 8-0 run, which featured two kills and a block by sophomore
Caroline Erb. Glass ended the set with an ace.
The Ospreys (16-2) stayed alive by winning the third set, 25-17. The fourth was closely contested, with ties at 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 22. A kill by freshman
Kelly Tornetta sandwiched in between two Stockton attack errors gave Muhlenberg a 25-22 win and the match.
Hubert finished with 52 assists, just two short of the school record. Glass (15), Boll (12) and Josephson (11) all finished with double figures in kills, while Weyhmuller added nine. Senior
Chelsea Kaser led the defense with 16 digs.
