Football Rolls to Homecoming Win

Box Score

Junior Nick Palladino and senior Anthony Schwab combined to set a school record by throwing six touchdown passes as the Muhlenberg football team rolled up 607 yards of total offense in a 55-0 Homecoming shutout of McDaniel.

Palladino threw for 146 yards an four touchdown passes in the first half, leading the Mules (2-1, 1-1 Centennial Conference) to a 41-0 lead at the break. Schwab played the entire second half and tossed a pair of scoring strikes.

The old record of five touchdown passes in a game was achieved six times, most recently in 2000.

Muhlenberg rushed for 399 yards and came within one of the school record of 35 first downs in a game. Sophomores Nick Savant (122 yards on nine carries) and Max Cepeda (108 yards on 10 carries) each passed the 100-yard mark in the first half, and neither took a handoff in the second. They are the first pair of Mules to rush for 100 yards in the same game in four years.

The defense allowed only 165 total yards (53 in the first half) and forced three turnovers in shutting out the Green Terror (0-3, 0-2) for the third time in four years. The Mules have recorded at least one shutout in each of the last seven seasons.

Muhlenberg took the opening kickoff and needed just 2:50 to score its first touchdown, on a 20-yard third-down pass from Palladino to senior Mike Harris. After a McDaniel three-and-out, the Mules moved 87 yards in just six plays to take a 13-0 lead on Savant's 39-yard run on third down.

Another third-down touchdown, on a 9-yard pass from Palladino to Savant, gave Muhlenberg touchdowns on its first three possessions and a 20-0 lead after one quarter.

The Mules added three more scores in the second on a 49-yard run by Cepeda (pictured above) and Palladino passes of 13 yards to Harris and 22 yards to senior Nick Lamb.

Schwab threw touchdown passes to sophomore Matthew Stickney in the third and senior Devlin Formey in the fourth.

Freshman Luke Wiley led the defense with seven tackles, while sophomore Matt Musilli made five stops, one for loss, and forced a fumble. Senior Matt Pagano intercepted a pass to set up the Mules' sixth touchdown.

Sophomore Travis Crawford, playing in his first career game, ended McDaniel's longest drive with a fourth-down sack.
