Taylor Pini tied a school record with three assists as the Muhlenberg women's soccer team used a pair of goals in the first two minutes of the second half to beat Bryn Mawr, 3-0, and earn its first Centennial Conference win of the season.
The Mules (2-8-1, 1-3) were powered by junior
Abby Lazofsky's two goals. Senior
Jen Mermelstein made three saves to record her first shutout of the season.
After playing a scoreless first half, Muhlenberg opened the scoring 19 seconds into the second half. Pini played a through ball that Lazofsky collected and shot over the keeper and into the net.
The Mules continued their fast start to the half 55 seconds later. Pini found freshman
Makenzie O'Brien at the back post for her second goal of the season.
Muhlenberg remained in control the rest of the half keeping constant pressure on the Bryn Mawr goal. The pressure paid off in the 85
th minute. Another excellent ball from Pini was volleyed into the top right corner by Lazofsky to cap off the 3-0 victory.
Pini, who entered the game with a career total of four assists, is the fifth Muhlenberg player - the first since 2010 - to record three assists in a game.
The Mules held an 18-5 advantage in shots, including 11-3 on shots on target. Muhlenberg also held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
