The second day of the Centennial Conference Championships brought the first gold medal for the Muhlenberg track and field teams.
Â
Sophomore
Dylan DeMagistris won the gold in the discus with a throw of 132-5, or 40.37 meters. DeMagistrisÂ
(pictured above right) achieved that mark on his first throw, and that stood up as the best throughout the rest of the competition, with only one other athlete topping 40 meters. It was the second career medal for DeMagistris, who earned bronze in the weight throw indoors earlier this year. He is the Mules' third CC champion in the discus, all since 2014.
Â
Junior
Elek Ferency, who won a bronze in the hammer on the first day of the meet, missed another medal by one place, coming in fourth in the discus.
Â
The Muhlenberg women won their first medal of the meet when senior
Marielle Avola placed third in the steeplechase. Despite, the chilly, windy and rainy conditions, AvolaÂ
(pictured above left) finished in 11:30.70, less than five seconds off the school-record time she posted two weeks ago.
Â
Senior
Abby Dalton and freshman
Erin Jackson both qualified for Sunday's final in the 800 meters.
