Men's Track and Field

Four Seniors End Careers with Gold

Four seniors on the Muhlenberg men's track and field team closed out their careers by winning gold medals at the Centennial Conference Championships.

The Mules scored points in 18 of the 21 events and finished in fourth place, their best showing since 2016 and a three-place improvement from the last CC outdoor meet in 2019.

Senior Zach Lill claimed his first career gold medal in the pole vault after previous placing fourth outdoors in 2018, third outdoors in 2019 and second indoors in 2019. He set a person best of 14-5¼ and narrowly missed breaking the school record of 14-7 on his next-to-last attempt. Lill is the Mules' first conference champ in the pole vault since 2013.

The relay team of freshman Nathan Reimer and seniors Gregory Shanahan, Sam Morgan and Luke Ullmann won the 4x800 going away, finishing nearly 6 seconds ahead of Gettysburg to give Muhlenberg its first gold medal in the event since 2009. It was the third career gold for Morgan, the CC champion in the 800 in 2019 (outdoors) and 2020 (indoors), and the first for the other three runners.

Also winning gold for the first time was junior Ben Arehart in the high jump. He cleared 6-6¾, two inches better than his previous best and the second-best height in program history. Arehart came within two inches of a school record that has stood since 1987; during the season he climbed from ninth to second on the Mules' all-time performance list.

In all, 10 Muhlenberg athletes won medals. Sophomore Elek Ferency took home a pair, a silver in the shot put and a bronze in the hammer. Senior Declan Walkush finished his career with a silver-medal performance in the steeplechase.

Ullmann (800) and sophomores John Panny (long jump) and Jarred Ford (pole vault) earned bronze medals.

Freshman JJ Ramirez-Rojas had a busy and productive day, scoring points in the four events - the 100, 200, 4x100 and long jump.
