The Muhlenberg wrestling team tuned up for next weekend's Centennial Conference Championships with a split of two dual matches at McDaniel.
 
The Mules first defeated the host team, 24-15, before falling to Gettysburg by a score of 26-16. Sophomores Austin Sherman and Michael Dougan along with junior Gennaro Cerminara all were 2-0 on the day. Sherman now has 41 career victories and is 24-13 this season.
 
Sherman earned Muhlenberg's first win with his fifth pin of the season in his bout at 133, and sophomore Josh Hickey followed with a technical fall victory to put the Mules up 11-6.
 
The Mules won the next two matches as well, with Dougan and senior Ben Peck each winning by decision. Peck (pictured above) won his bout with a late takedown and a four-point near fall as time expired to make it a 16-12 final.
 
Schwartz earned his team-leading 29th victory of the season in his first career bout at 174, putting Muhlenberg up 21-9. Cerminara clinched the Muhlenberg victory with a 7-1 decision at 197.
 
Against Gettysburg, Sherman also picked up Muhlenberg's first win with a 19-5 major decision. The Mules dropped the next two matches before Dougan won his second decision of the day to cut the advantage to 16-7.
 
Cerminara battled from behind to grab his second win of the day, an 8-6 decision, increasing his season total to 26 victories. The Bullets, however, won three of the final five bouts to win the overall match.
 
Sophomore Nick Daza battled to a close decision in his McDaniel match at 165, and Schwartz forced overtime in his Gettysburg match against a 165-lb contender in the d3wrestle.com rankings. Sophomore Mike Cannon picked up a win by forfeit against Gettysburg after suffering a one-point defeat in his McDaniel bout.
 
Sophomore Scott Schaeffer fought tough against the eighth-ranked Gettysburg heavyweight wrestler, keeping his match close despite the low score.
