The upperweights on the Muhlenberg wrestling team enjoyed a big day in a pair of Centennial Conference matches at Ursinus.

Junior Jake Gordon (174), freshman Steven Rice (184) and sophomore Gennaro Cerminara (197) each went 2-0 as the Mules fell to Washington and Lee (35-19) and Johns Hopkins (23-15).

Gordon's two wins included a pin vs. W&L and a 9-2 decision against the 2016 CC champion at 174 - the wrestler who handed Gordon his lone loss at the CC meet last year.

Rice improved his season record to 11-9 with a major decision and a decision, the latter coming against last year's CC third-place finisher.

Cerminara came from behind in both of his wins. He trailed 5-2 after two periods vs. Washington and Lee before scoring a reversal, takedown and near-fall in the third for an 11-6 win. Cerminara was taken down early in his Johns Hopkins match, but scored a reversal that ultimately led to his 12th pin of the season.

Junior Ben Peck notched a come-from-behind 5-3 win at 149 in the Johns Hopkins match, which came down to the final bout. With the Blue Jays up 19-15, Muhlenberg needed a major decision or better at heavyweight to tie or win. Freshman Scott Schaeffer came out strong and scored two takedowns in the first period but was reversed late in the period and ended up falling.
