Bruce Levine has been hired as the new head men's tennis coach at Muhlenberg College. He replaces Jeff Schmitt, who retired following the 2015-16 season.
"I'm really excited to come to Muhlenberg," said Levine. "I look forward to building on the foundation established by Jeff Schmitt and assisting our student athletes in their pursuit of excellence in the classroom, in our community and on the court."Â
Levine brings a wealth of knowledge of the game of tennis, along with owning plenty of experience as a coach and mentor. He served as interim women's tennis coach at Vassar College in the spring of 2016, filling in for a coach who was on sabbatical. Vassar went 13-8 last year, including a win against nationally ranked Skidmore, and finished the year ranked 18th in the Northeast Region.
Levine currently is the owner and CEO of tennis2tennis, a tennis consulting firm that works with tennis clubs regarding specific operational issues. He also conducts operational studies that include marketing, programming, staffing and operations. Before tennis2tennis, Levine was the general manager and partner at Courtside Racquet Club from 2005 to 2014. During his tenure at Courtside, Levine saw Courtside Racquet Club earn 2009 Facility of the Year by USTA National.Â
The Springfield College graduate was the director of tennis at Oak Lane Country Club from 1990 to 2001, preceded by stops as the senior vice president of tennis operations at Spectrum Sports (1986-1989) and assistant women's tennis coach at Skidmore (1980-1999). In 1998, he helped Skidmore win the Division III national championship.
Levine is the treasurer of the USTA Middle States Board of Directors, while also holding a chair of the Junior Development Committee of the USTA. He is a member of the National Adult Competition Committee, and is the incoming USPTA Middle States President. Levine was voted as the New Haven Register coach of the year in 2003 and 2004 while coaching the boys' team at Amity Regional High School and was a faculty member of the World Tennis Congress in 2014 and 2015. Â
