Twelve Muhlenberg football players, including eight who combined for nine spots on the first team, earned All-Centennial Conference honors.
Â
Senior
Nick Palladino took one of the top prizes as he was named CC offensive player of the year. A repeat selection on the All-CC first team, Palladino is the Mules' ninth CC player of the year, their fifth on the offensive side. The only other Muhlenberg quarterback to win the honor was Justin Jones in 2002.
Â
Palladino leads the CC in completion percentage (.677) and is tied for the lead in passing touchdowns (a school-record-tying 26 against only seven interceptions). He has thrown for 2,497 yards, and during the season he became the CC's all-time leader in total offense yards (11,422), total offense touchdowns (111), passing touchdowns (88) and completions (862). Palladino ranks second in CC history in passing yards (9,961) and the most important category – wins as a starting quarterback (33).
Â
Also named to the first team were senior wide receiver/kick returner
Nick Lamb, senior offensive tackle
Willie Britt, senior cornerback
John Feaster, senior linebacker
Mike Luby, senior nose tackle
Michael Hogan, senior offensive lineman
Domenick Mattia and junior running back
Nick Savant.
Â
Freshman tight end
Frankie Feaster and sophomore cornerback
Nate Corvil earned second-team honors, while sophomore safety
Luke Wiley and sophomore offensive tackle
Kyle Oprisko received honorable mention.
Â
Lamb earned the unique distinction of being named to the first team at two positions. Muhlenberg's all-time leader in receptions, he is second in the CC in receiving yards (950) and receiving touchdowns (9) and is third in catches (69). Lamb also is averaging a league-best 34.3 yards per kickoff return, scoring return touchdowns against Susquehanna and Dickinson.
Â
Lamb is the third Mule to earn first-team honors as both a wide receiver and a kick returner, joining
Joshua Carter (2000 and 2001) and Kodi Shay (2003).
Â
Britt and
John Feaster became the 10th and 11th Mules named to the All-CC first team three straight years. Britt is just the third offensive lineman in that group, joining Mike Nolan (2006-08) and Art Kopacz (1984-86). He has started all 43 Muhlenberg games in his career, and this year he helped pave the way for a potent offense that is averaging 41.4 points and 477.9 yards per game.
Â
A second-team selection as a freshman, Feaster is the first Muhlenberg player to receive All-CC recognition all four years. He is tied for the team lead with five interceptions to go along with 49 total tackles, five pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and a pair of blocked punts. Feaster is third in team history with his 15 career interceptions.
Â
Luby also repeated on the All-CC first team. He leads the CC with 16½ tackles for loss, including nine sacks (tied for the league lead). Muhlenberg's leading tackler with 67 stops, he also has five pass breakups and three forced fumbles. Luby's 23½ career sacks are one short of the school record.
Â
Hogan moved up to the first team after making the second team last year. The anchor of the defensive line, he has recorded 34 tackles, including 2½ for loss. The Mules lead the CC in rushing defense, allowing only 108.9 yards per game.
Â
Mattia and Savant were first-time honorees. Mattia started the first three games at center and the next two at guard before moving back to center for the final five games. He helped Muhlenberg lead the CC in rushing yards per game (212.7) and rushing yards per carry (5.1).
Â
Savant is a big part of those statistics too. He leads the CC in rushing yards (1,511), yards per carry (7.0), rushing touchdowns (16), all-purpose yards (1,782), total touchdowns (20) and points (122). Savant rushed for over 100 yards in all nine CC games and ranks fifth in Division III in rushing yards.
Â
The nine first-team spots are the most for the Mules since the CC expanded to 10 teams in 2010.
Â
Frankie Feaster joins his older brother on the All-CC squad and is the first Muhlenberg offensive player to earn All-CC honors as a freshman since 1999. He is tied for fourth on the Mules with 16 catches for 203 yards and a touchdown.
Â
Corvil made the All-CC team in his first year as a starter after recording 50 tackles (second on the team) and tying for the team lead in interceptions (five) and pass breakups (five). He also has recovered a fumble and blocked a punt.
Â
Wiley received honorable mention for the second consecutive year. Despite missing two games with injury, he has recorded 36 tackles, two interceptions and three pass breakups.
Â
Oprisko was recognized after starting all 10 games in his first varsity season. He began the season at right guard and shifted to right tackle for the final seven games.
Muhlenberg, ranked 19th in Division III by the American Football Coaches Association, went 9-1 in the regular season and finished second in the CC with an 8-1 league mark. The Mules will host Delaware Valley in a Centennial-MAC Bowl Series game on Saturday in their 13th postseason appearance in the last 17 years.
