The Muhlenberg football team is ranked 23rd in the first
D3football.com poll of the 2015 regular season.
The Mules were ranked 25th in the preseason poll and moved up after their
35-7 win against Wilkes on Friday night. Click above for a video recap of the game.
Muhlenberg's win was part of an outstanding 8-2 opening week for the Centennial Conference, including an five-overtime win by Ursinus against Division II Millersville and a 28-13 defeat of Lycoming (picked third in the MAC preseason poll) by Susquehanna in the head coaching debut of former Mule assistant Tom Perkovich.
Junior
Nick Palladino (pictured above) was responsible for three of the touchdowns in the Wilkes game, passing for two and running for one. He finished with a career-high 109 yards on the ground, becoming the first Muhlenberg quarterback to rush for 100 yards in a game since 2012 and the first to average more than 10 yards per carry in a 100-yard game since 2001.
You have to go much farther back to find another "last time it happened" from the game. Sophomore
Kyle Wilczynski caught two two-point conversion passes, becoming the first Mule to score more than one two-point conversion in a game since 1967, when Randy Uhrich set a school record with three against Swarthmore. Wilczynski is the first Muhlenberg player with multiple two-point conversions in a
season since Tony Concordia in 1987. Two-point conversions have not been a big part of the Mule arsenal in recent years: their three attempts Friday night matches their
total from the previous seven seasons.
