The Muhlenberg football team was picked second in the Centennial Conference preseason poll, announced at the league's
Kickoff '15 event.
The Mules received three first-place votes and totaled 144 points in voting by the CC's coaches and sports information directors. Six-time defending champion Johns Hopkins finished first in the poll.
Muhlenberg was 9-2 last year, earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament - the team's 11th postseason bid in 15 years. The Mules finished in sole possession of second place for the fourth year in a row after tying for the title in 2010. The program's current run of five straight seasons in first or second place is only the fifth in the 32-year history of the CC. Muhlenberg is the only school to have two such runs, previously finishing no lower than second from 2000 to 2004.
Muhlenberg, ranked 25th in the
D3football.com preseason poll, is 36-9 in the CC over the last five years and has a .723 winning percentage in league games since 2000.
The Mules are scheduled to open their season with their first-ever Friday night home game, against Wilkes on September 4. The CC opener is slated for Saturday, September 12, at Franklin & Marshall.
