The Muhlenberg wrestling team went up against some tough competition in its final dual matches of the first semester, hosting Division II opponents Ohio Valley and East Stroudsburg.

Freshman Patrick Sockler went 2-0 on the day at 133, improving his season record to a team-best 13-5. Against Ohio Valley, he recorded four takedowns in opening up a 10-3 lead midway through the third period. Needing another takedown to secure a major decision, Sockler (pictured above) got one with 30 seconds left and rode his opponent out to pick up another point on riding time for a 13-3 major.

In the East Stroudsburg match, Sockler scored two takedowns in the first period en route to an 8-3 decision. The only six points he conceded in his two bouts were on escapes.

Sophomore Ben Peck built a 10-2 lead and held on for a 10-7 win against Ohio Valley at 141. After getting taken down early, he escaped and countered with a takedown and four-point near-fall before the end of the first period. Another takedown in the second following an escape provided all the points he would need.

Several other Mules battled well in losses in the Ohio Valley match. At 157, senior Che Chengsupanimit scored two reversals, the last one with a minute left in the third period to close to within 7-6, before his opponent prevailed, 10-6. Freshman Lorenzo Gisonda (165) had two third-period takedowns in his attempt to come from behind but also lost, 10-6.

Senior Zach Goldrosen escaped with under 15 seconds left in his bout at 184 to draw even before falling in overtime.

Sophomore Will Lamb, making his season debut at 165 against East Stroudsburg, cut into an early 6-2 deficit with two reversals and a takedown but ultimately fell short, 10-8.
