Wilczynski Pick Named Play of the Week

A spectacular one-handed interception by Muhlenberg sophomore linebacker Kyle Wilczynski was named D3football.com play of the week.

On the fourth play from scrimmage in the Mules' game at Gettysburg on Saturday, Wilczynski was covering running back Kyle Wigley out in the flat when a pass came their way. Wilczynski leaped and reached behind himself to pick off the ball with his right hand, then secured it and raced untouched into the end zone for a 31-yard touchdown.

The play set the defensive tone for a game in which the Mules held the previously undefeated Bullets well below their season averages of 39.0 points and and 512.4 yards per game, allowing only 305 yards in a 41-13 win.

The interception return for a touchdown was the second in as many games for Wilczynski, who also recorded a pick-six for the first points against Susquehanna. He is the first Muhlenberg player in 68 years to return interceptions for touchdowns in back-to-back games.

It's the second time in the last three years that a Muhlenberg play has been selected as play of the week. In 2013, it was a three-person return of a blocked field goal for a touchdown against McDaniel.
