Senior Ian Gimbar and junior Lenny Smith both went 2-0 as the Muhlenberg wrestling team opened up Centennial Conference competition with wins against Washington and Lee (33-18) and McDaniel (29-18).

Gimbar recorded a pair of first-period pins at 197 to remain undefeated at 6-0 for the season, while Smith (pictured above) won both of his bouts by decision at heavyweight.

The upperweights helped secure both victories. The Mules led 24-18 heading into the final two classes vs. Washington and Lee before Gimbar clinched the win with his pin with a minute left in the first period.

The McDaniel match was even closer, with Muhlenberg clinging to a 20-18 lead before Gimbar flattened his opponent in 48 seconds.

Sophomore Jaryd Flank and freshman Mark Gutierrez (pictured left) gave the Mules an 8-0 lead on McDaniel with back-to-back major decisions. At 149, junior Che Chengsupanimit ended a back-and-forth bout by pinning his opponent with just seven seconds remaining, extending Muhlenberg's lead to 14-6.

The Green Terror won the next two contests to go ahead 15-14, but junior Jim Coiley pinned his opponent at 184 just 25 seconds into the second period to give the Mules the lead for good.
